Windermere Lake
Cruises - sail from Bowness Piers throughout the year offering a variety
of trips including: Full or Half Lake cruises, Islands Cruise, Steam Railway and
Cruise, Boat and bus trip to Hill Top and Hawkeshead. The Piers are approximately
150 yards from Virginia Cottage.
Dove Cottage and
the Wordsworth Museum – was William Wordsworth’s home from
1799 to 1808, his most prolific and years as a poet. Located 5 miles north of
Bowness on the edge of Grassmere , the home of Sarah Nelson’s famous gingerbread
Blackwell House
– located 1.5 miles south of Bowness is one of Britain’s finest houses
from the turn of the last century, it is one of the country’s most important
examples of Arts and Crafts architecture.
Holker Hall and
Gardens – is one of the country’s best loved stately homes.
From the magnificent library to the Regulator clock and the hand carved cantilever
staircase. Award winning gardens, acre after acre of soft parkland where fallow
deer roam free, wildflower meadows and salt marsh pastures are never more evident
than at Holker Hall. Located 1 mile from Cartmell famous for the racecourse and
National Hunt racing.
Beatrix Potter Attraction
– only 200 yards from Virginia Cottage this is the only official Peter Rabbit
attraction in the UK. Recently refurbished all 23 tales are brought to life, from
Mr Mcgregor’s garden to the woodland glade. A new multi screen presentation
with interactive virtual walks guide you through the pioneering life of Miss Potter.
